
This is a horseback expedition into a zone that the great archaeologist Raymondi described as 15,000 sq. kms. of unexplored Andes before the first road, (not that long ago). Here you can see tombs in cliff mausoleums filled with bones and funeral wrappings blowing out in the wind. You will also get to see Kuelap, the largest and most mysterious building of the Americas, and a newly discovered ruins our team just found near there.
Day 1 Cajamarca – Leymebamba
Airport pick up service in Cajamarma . Our bus climbs the sweeping cold cordillera and descends into an oven dry valley to cross the main trunk Marañon River. Here a coastal Chimu Colony uses their irrigation skills to grow exotic tropical fruits in a micro ecological system. We go up to Leymebamba to spend the night. (B, BL)
Day 2 Leymebamba – Tajopampa
Interesting horseback or trek to Tajopampa (5 hours), we will pass the Centro Mallqui Museum and continue our trip through a variety of panoramas, cross rivers, bridges up the river canyon with towering cliffs on each side. After a picnic by the river we continue to La Petaca that afternoon and spend the night our rustic lodge in Tajopampa. (B, L, D)
Day 3 Tajopampa
Today is the exploration day of all the ruins nearby. We will see the city of Boveda with round buildings on top of a mountain. We will also see the famous Diablo Huasi on a steep cliff with its variety of mausoleums with skeletons, mummies and burial cloth hanging from the tombs. Horseback to Leymebamba to spend the night. Day 4 Leymebamba- Museum Centro Mallqui – Choctamal
Now we get to see Peru's brand new Centro Mallqui Museum that the Austrians donated for this unique 1998 discovery at Lake of the Condors (you have seen on the Discovery Channel). The 219 mummies are here along with many artifacts. On the way to Choctamal we will see the Revash Ruins. Night in our Choctamal Marvelous Spatuletail Lodge gateway to Kuelap and Gran Vilaya. Day 5 Choctamal – Kuelap – Chachapoyas
We will spend the day at Fortress Kuelap known as "the Machu Picchu of the North". It has over 400 buildings inside 3 levels of walls, and is the largest stone structure of the Americas. Orchids and bromeliads cover the walls and trees inside this fortress. Night in 3 star Colonial Mansion. (B, L)
Day 6 Chachapoyas - Chiclayo
Transfer to Chiclayo for your evening flight to Lima. (B, BL)

Peru is home of 3000 orchid species The greatest diversity of species is found in the High Amazon Jungle located between 500 and 3,600 m.a.s.l. Peru surpasses the number of native species found in Colombia and Ecuador, countries that are known because of their orchid variety.
Orchids require a temperature range consistent with their place of origin: some demand high temperatures and flourish in a hothouse, others are quite content with the temperature of the typical home (temperate house), still others are unhappy if the temperature rises above 60 degrees (cool house).
DAY 1 Tarapoto
Airport pick up in Tarapoto and night in Puerto Palmeras Resort.
DAY 2 Tarapoto-Moyobamba-Chachapoyas
Transfer to Moyobamba, the Orchid Capital of Peru with more than 2,800 varieties of Orchids. Visit the vivero of Wakanki with great numbers of orchids such as Anguloa, Brassia, Cataseum, Cattleya, Bollea, Coryanthes, Lycaste, Masdevallia and many more. The most representative is the Cattleya, locally known as "Golondrina". Night in Casona Monsante. (B,BL)
DAY 3 Chachapoyas-Santa Isabel-Choctamal
After breakfast in Casona Monsante we will visit the garden with more than 150 varieties of Orchids among them Helcia Marginatha, Odontoglosum Bello, Cochlioda, Masderallia Wurdackii, Tricho Centrum, Schamburria, Stan Jhopea…. Transfer to Vivero Santa Isabel, located at only 10 minutes from Chachapoyas, Santa Isabel is one of the first Orchidariums in Chachapoyas with more than 150 varieties of orchids among them we will see Solidiniopsis Tigroides, Pragmipedium Caudatum, Paphiopedilum, Oncidium Macrantum, etc.. Visit the “Vivero of Choctamal” located in Km 17 in the road to Kuelap, some orchids are: Tricho Centrum, Brassia, Stanjhopea, Telipogon, Tricopillia, Maxilaria Kohelerii, Masevallia Picea….. This vivero was started by the community of Choctamal and the Choctamal Lodge. Night in Choctamal Lodge, high in the mountains. (B,BL,D)
DAY 4 Choctamal-Forest-Choctamal
Today we will hike up to forest to see the different varieties of orchids in their natural habitat like Odontoglossum Epidendroides, Maxilaria Kohelerii, Lephantes. Night in Choctamal Lodge. (B,BL,D)
DAY 5 Choctamal-Leymebamba-Chachapoyas
Private transfer to Leymebamba. We will stop in the orchidarium of the museum of Leymebamba where we can see more than 100 varieties of orchids like : Orquidea, Epidendrum sp, Orquidea, Cochlioda noezliana, and others. (B,BL)
DAY 6 Chachapoyas-Chiclayo
Transfer to airport of Chiclayo for your evening flight to Lima. (B,BL)
